7th (Galloway) Battalion

4 June 2017

Borderers,

I came across this photograph, quite by accident, while researching for my book, it is unique as I have never seen a photograph of 7th Bn KOSB in all the hundreds available on operation Market Garden, it was wrongly titled ‘British Paratroopers Operation Market Garden’ I put the correct accreditation, (see below) to the photograph. The reason I said it is more than likely prior to Arnhem are the shinny boots of the Borderer with the rifle slung. It is also interesting to note that they are wearing the small regimental cap badge possibly the sporran badge.

I have sent a copy to Ian Martin at the museum, who had never came across it before either. To that end I very much like it to be posted in the Gallery, please.

Kind regards

Hiram

These are 7th (Galloway) Bn the King’s Own Scottish Borderers, who were part of 1st British Airborne Division, they landed at Arnhem by glider, note the cap badge, the photograph is more than likely prior to Operation Market Garden, the KOSB sustained the second highest killed of the 765 who went in 112 KIA, 76 evacuated and 577 missing.
