Galashiels Veterans of the 6th Battalion celebrate VE Day

Borderers,

On Monday 8th of May, the 72nd anniversary of the end of the Second World War. Borderers and friends of the 6th Battalion from Galashiels gathered at Cornmill Square, including Normandy veterans John Webster, 97, George Coltman, 96, and Adam Kelly MBE, 95 – who have all been awarded Legion of Honour. They laid a wreath at Galashiels War Memorial in remembrance of 6th Battalion Borderers who fell in the Second world War. 

Michael Hall, the honorary treasurer of the 6th Battalion Association, stated: “The Battalion was set up in 1939 and disbanded in 1945, and everyone was from the Borders, we will all now head to Quins to toast those who have fallen.”
