Iain Whiteley – Borderer and Marathon Runner

Gentlemen,

In a few weeks time, I am intending to run my last marathon (London) – yes, really!! Using the money raised in support of a very worthy cause, “Combat Stress”.

As an ex-serviceman, I know that not all war wounds are visible. Much as operational intensity (Iraq and Afghanistan etc.) may have dropped and physical injury has demanded attention and provision, there is little support, statutory or otherwise, for less visible mental issues. The average manifestation is fourteen years and demand is on the rise. Mental health issues not only impact on the individual but affects whole families for a prolonged period of time.
