Shadows of Angel Wings – Galashiels

2 November 2018

Borderers,

“Shadows of Angel Wings – A sight never seen nowadays due to modern street lighting but on Sunday 11th November from 7.55 to 8.50 pm the street lights will be put out and the “Shadows of Angel Wings” will once more be seen. This is part of a service commemorating the ending of the FIRST WORLD WAR and will run from 7.30 pm to 8.30 pm. Music will be provided by the Langlee Choir, Galashiels Town Band and the Galashiels Ex-Service Pipe Band. The Old Gala Club will have a Screened display of events from that conflict. The proceedings will be compered by Alasdair Hutton the well known voice of the Edinburgh Military Tattoo. Similar events were held in 2011 and 2014. It is hoped a large attendance of the Public will turn out for this unique occasion, which may be the last for many a year.”

The photograph is the Galashiels War Memorial on which the majority of names are Borderers,  many from Gallipoli and Mesopotamia.
