LCPL PETER DEACON SIME

On this day 7th April 1972 the Battalion would suffer its first KIA on OPERATION BANNER.

Lance Corporal Peter Deacon Sime was fatally shot by an enemy sniper in the Ballymurphy area of west Belfast. LCpl Sime was serving in C Company and was on sentry duty outside the Henry Taggart Hall, he was aged 22.

Peter had enlisted into the Cameronians in 1966 and transferred to the Borderers in 1967, he had passed his JNCOs cadre in July 1971 and was promoted and posted to C Company where he quickly became a popular member.

Peter is laid to rest in Hawkhead Cemetery Paisley section K row 318 and is remembered on our Regimental Memorial in Palace Barracks Belfast.
