It is with great sadness that I inform you that Maj Gen John MacDonald died on Saturday 2nd May aged 88. His funeral will take place on Tuesday 26th May at 11am in Dunsford Church, Devon.
John followed his father into the Regiment in 1958. He joined 1 KOSB in Edinburgh before going with them to Berlin. He was a member of the Battalion rugger team that won the Army Cup in 1960 and in 1961. Between 1966 -1967 he gained eight caps for Scotland .
On leaving the Regiment he had a spell away from service life but in 1963 joined the RASC and from then on had an illustrious career, eventually becoming the Director General Transport and Movements. On leaving the Army he became chief executive of The Earl Haig Fund, The Officers Association and the Royal British Legion, Scotland. He always kept a keen interest in and close links with the Regiment.
